Pilot Instructor Standardization Course

This comprehensive program elevates helicopter flight training by equipping instructors with the skills and knowledge to produce highly proficient pilots.

Leveraging decades of safety expertise, the new Instructor Pilot (IP) course builds upon RHC’s well-established Safety Course, a cornerstone program for more than 40 years. This enhanced curriculum signifies a strategic shift, positioning Robinson as a preeminent leader in safety and global helicopter pilot training.

The Robinson IP program offers graduates the opportunity to join a network of ‘approved training providers.’ This designation signifies instructor qualification and provides new opportunities for aspiring operators and pilots.

Pilot Safety Course

Who Should Attend?

The PILOT SAFETY COURSE course is open to all rated helicopter pilots with a minimum of 3 hours logged in the Robinson helicopter type selected for the course. A fundamental understanding of the model aircraft is necessary to enable the RHC flight instructor to concentrate on the safety aspects covered during the course.

Note: Student pilots may enroll in anticipation of receiving their rating; however, they must have obtained their helicopter rating prior to attending the course.

This course is taught entirely in English and all attendees are required to understand and speak fluent English. Should the instructors determine your English is not sufficient for this course, the flight will not be allowed and no course certificate will be issued.

Course Duration & Curriculum

The Pilot Safety Course conducted by RHC is 4 days of classroom instruction with 1 hour flight (approximate) led by an experienced RHC flight instructor in either an R22, R44 or R66.  No additional flight time will be provided.

All attendees must arrive by 7:45 a.m. each class day and class begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. Applicants must attend the entire course to receive a certificate of completion.  The course concludes at approximately 4:30 p.m. each day except on flight day. First applicants to enroll will be scheduled to fly on Day 3, with the remaining to fly on Day 4.  Please check your confirmation letter for your assigned flight day.

While the course is tailored for the R22, R44 and R66 helicopters, the curriculum is not designed as a transition course for a specific make and model. It has been developed to address safety-related topics to assist pilots in developing/enhancing their aeronautical decision-making skills. Knowledge areas covered during the course will include some of the major causes of helicopter accidents and incidents, their root causes, and prevention techniques. Portions of the Pilot’s Operating Handbook limitations, emergency procedures, and performance sections, as well as pertinent FAA regulations, will be included as appropriate. Emphasis will be placed on human factors throughout the duration of the course.
